Nike Self-Lacing “Back to the Future” Sneakers

So think back, waaayyy back to 2011 when Nike released the Air Mag, a replica version of the iconic sneakers that Marty McFly wore in “Back to the Future II” and the crowds went wild. No matter how hard we tried though, we couldn’t get past that one disappointing missing link. Those things just didn’t know how to lace themselves up at all and of course that was the very best part of the ones in the movie. Talk about a time saver, talk about a helping hand when you’re that one beer past competent. So, they were cool and all, and the proceeds went to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research, but you still had to just use your imagination and lace your own damn shoes. Well… now Nike designer Tinker Hatfield (real name) says that the future is really, truly here. Or, almost here anyway. Nike is seriously set to release self-tying sneakers. They’re not saying if they’ll look the same, but they are coming and planning for a 2015 release, which is the year that the film featuring them was actually set. So as much as we’d prefer a plutonium-powered DeLorean that we could go time-traveling in, we’ll totally take the self-lacing sneakers. But now that you want them, you can’t get them of course. Not yet, but they are waiting for you in the very near future. We’re such a tease… you know you love it.
